Casey’s has gas again
Staff writer
After months, Casey’s General Store has reopened its Marion pumps.
The process had been months in the making.
The pumps and tanks were replaced in a massive update that left Cenex, in eye-view of Casey’s, as the only open place to pump gasoline in Marion.
Cenex is an unmanned self-serve gas station owned by Cooperative Grain and Supply of Hillsboro.
Initially, it was said by Zernco, a Wichita-based general contractor, that one of Casey’s former tanks had a leak.
But the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and Casey’s General Store corporate said that was not the issue.
Ultimately, it was just time to retire the old system and put in a new one, especially since the tanks were the original ones from when Casey’s opened in the mid- 1980s.
Steel tanks were retired, as steel is often no longer used in the industry. Fiberglass is preferred.
With the pumps finished, customers now have access to both regular and fuel without ethanol.
