Casey's hours cut, not employees

Marion Casey’s hours took a change for the shorter Sunday after 1½ years of being open 24/7.

The store’s new hours are 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. According to Mike Richardson, vice president of marketing, there is no reduction in the number of employees.

Having a shorter schedule but the same number of workers will result in fewer hours.

The Marion location’s hours originally changed in July 2017 following the corporation’s success in converting other stores to 24/7 hours.

The decision isn’t a problem for Casey’s customer and Marion resident Joseph Legg, but he said it could have an effect on late night workers, like those at Container Services, Inc. in Hillsboro.

“I’m feeling 50-50,” he said. “You just have to get used to it, it’s not bad.”

The late shift at CSI runs from 12 to 8 a.m., but Hillsboro Casey’s is not open 24 hours either, closing at 1 a.m. and reopening three hours later at 4 a.m.

The decision was made on a store-by-store basis, but there wasn’t enough late-night traffic in Marion to keep the business open through the night, Richardson said.
