LETTERS
TO THE EDITOR
The newspaper welcomes brief letters (generally no longer than 400 words) that express an opinion on a currently newsworthy topic. The writer’s contact information must be included for verification. Letters that contain defamatory comments, open letters, third-party letters, letters sent to more than one publication, and letters that would more appropriately be advertisements, including Cards of Thanks, are unlikely to be published. One letter generally is allowed per writer per calendar month.
Helping feed seniors
To the editor:
I have had the privilege of working with the seniors of Marion County for nearly three years, and one of our most important services is distributing commodities to low income families. This effort would not be possible without the many volunteers who give their time so generously.
I want to especially thank the Marion High School students and teachers who come regularly to help load vehicles. Their service builds community spirit and gives students a real understanding of the challenges many families face. Several have shared that they didn’t realize how many people struggle to afford food.
I also want to recognize our volunteer van drivers, who ensure seniors can access essential services, and our newsletter volunteers, who help keep our community informed and connected. Their behind-the-scenes work makes a real difference.
We are fortunate in Marion County to have several resources that help ensure no one goes hungry. I’m grateful to our churches and county employees who step in to help whenever needed.
Feeding our community is truly a team effort, and I’m proud to say, “I love my Marion County community.”
