The Lady Trojans snapped an eight-game losing streak with two decisive victories on the road Friday against Nickerson, winning 11-6 and 15-3.
They kept their momentum going into Monday’s road doubleheader against Council Grove, winning both games, 8-1 and 6-3.
“The wins against Nickerson were much needed for our team,” coach Alyssa Kroeker said. “We have worked hard to get to this point and have played a lot of talented teams, and it’s great to finally get a win for what we’ve worked for these past few months.”
Hillsboro’s boy spilt two games on the road Friday against Nickerson, losing the first 4-1 before winning the second 13-0. Nash Dickinson and Zayne Haslett pitched in the second game.
On Monday, the boys dropped two to Council Grove, 10-1 and 13-3.
Hillsboro will close out its regular season on the road Friday against Pratt. Regional competition will begin May 14.
Marion
The Warriors dropped two games on the road Friday to Sedgwick, losing 12-5 and 6-3.
Hoping to snap a three-game skid, Marion traveled to Remington on Tuesday, but eventually lost in eight innings.
It was a high-scoring battle with a final score 20-19.
Kevon Jones scored five runs, Lander Smith scored four, and Carson Krause scored three.
The Warriors went through four pitchers in eight innings. Krause was credited with the loss. Hugh Guettermen, Kadon Mercer, and Grayson Smith were the three other pitchers.
Two weeks ago, Marion added an additional game to its regular season schedule, a chance to end their season at home Friday against Herington.
The first game on Friday will be played between the schools’ junior varsity squads, and the second will be between the varsity teams.
Between games, Marion will honor its senior players.
