More than 160 attended Saturday’s 11th annual Marion County Health Fair at Tabor College in Hillsboro.
Marion County Health Department, St. Luke Hospital, and Hillsboro Community Hospital sponsored it.
The fair featured 25 exhibitors, with 52 people representing Marion County health organizations.
St. Luke Hospital performed 38 lab tests and Hillsboro Community Hospital did 44.
Marion County Health Department gave out 26 flu and covid vaccines.
“This was a way to support health and to give back to the communities,” coordinator Jessica Gilbert said.
“The main draws were the labs compared to what the labs would cost normally.” Tests cost as low as $15.
Health organizations coming together to meet the public was a great collaboration, county health director Krista Schneider said.
“It’s a one-stop shop,” she said. “People are really enjoying the labs.”
Thirty-five fairgoers won prizes totaling $1,370. Gift cards from Visa, Amazon and restaurants were handed out, along with gift baskets, free first appointments, free massages, and $200 off sunglasses, and products like skin care kits and emergency kits.
Orsted was the primary donor and sponsored four musical acts.
“When I think of a community event, the words ‘comes unity,’ come to mind,” Gilbert said. “On Saturday, for three hours, over 200 people gathered in a beautiful venue and focused on the health and well-being of Marion County residents.”
“The fair is a stellar collaboration between health organizations and businesses within Marion County.”
Fruit and granola bars were provided by Dale’s Supermarket in Hillsboro and Carlsons’ Grocery in Marion.
