Memorial Day

To the editor:

Eight veterans shot volleys from their rifles in honor of their departed comrades then stood at attention as “Taps” echoed through the cemetery.

This was Memorial Day observance at Marion Cemetery as a gentle rain fell.

I was fortunate to be at the cemetery when these veterans in full uniform gave their time to honor the veterans marked by flags.

There were no speakers, no wreaths, and only a few people who were fortunate to be there at 2 p.m.

It was a Memorial Day observance that will remain in my heart.

Thank you to the Legion veterans who gave their time to bring honor to those departed.
