OFFENSES
REPORTED
These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:
SHERIFF
Criminal damage
As reported in a news story two weeks ago, a tombstone, listed only as an unspecified miscellaneous item, was damaged between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Aug. 3 at Lost Springs Cemetery, according to a report released Friday.
Deputy Clayton Philpott’s report, dated five days after the reported incident, estimated damage at $300 and did not specify that the damage was done by a gunshot.
In a news story two weeks ago, George Luna told the Record he had discovered the damage while visiting family graves but could not estimate when it occurred.
Theft
Two lawn chairs valued at $200 total were reported stolen between 9:50 and 10:32 a.m. Thursday from Sheila G. Albright’s backyard on Schlotthauer Dr. in Eastshore subdivision at Marion Reservoir.
HILLSBORO
Submitting false reports, interfering with law enforcement, failing to report an accident, other driving violations
Two young women — one age 16, the other age 21 — face multiple potential charges after they allegedly left the scene of an accident at 10:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at Pine and C Sts. and lied to police afterward about how it happened.
According to Assistant Chief Randy Brazil, unlicensed 16-year-old driver Neavaeh R. Britton, Hillsboro, failed to negotiate a curve on Pine St. and drove a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox off the road, through a ditch, and into a field.
The SUV was found unattended. Both Britton and passenger Shaylinn M. Vogt, 21, initially gave a different account of the accident upon returning to the scene a short time after police arrived, according to offense reports filed by Brazil.
Police are recommending that the county attorney charge Britton with failure to report an accident, driving without a license, interfering with law enforcement, and giving false information about the accident.
Against Vogt police are seeking charges of failure to report an accident, allowing an unauthorized person to drive, interfering with law enforcement, and giving false information.
MARION
Theft
A 16-foot Star car trailer, reported Aug. 10 as being stolen between 5:35 and 5:45 p.m. the day before from a garage in the 100 block of Walnut St. in Marion, was recovered by police and sheriff’s deputies Aug. 12 at an undisclosed location on Locust St. in Peabody.
The trailer, valued at $3,500, is owned by Matthew Druse, 39, Marion.
Theft charges are unlikely because of lack of evidence, Police Chief Aaron Slater said Monday. However, he indicated that the sheriff’s department was considering asking for charges of possession of stolen property and criminal damage to property because the trailer was damaged during the theft.
