Seniors celebrate with no hitch in their giddy-up

Honorary cowboys and cowgirls in boots, bandanas, and hats celebrated National Day of the Cowboy at the senior center July 26.

Center patrons sung “Home on the Range,” accompanied by Keith Allison. Kendall Allison, Larry Blosser, Max Ewert, Connie Fisher, and Joan Meyer read cowboy poetry.

A home health service presented a program July 24 on the dangers of dehydration during hot weather.

Elaine McAllister of Hillsboro, author of the new book “Celebrate Grandparenting,” will present a program Aug. 14.

Vickie Kaempfe brought cookies and cupcakes July 29. Edith Warneke brought treats for her birthday July 31. Irmagene Goodman brought treats July 19 to celebrate her 90th birthday, which was the next day, and then brought cake the following week from her birthday open house.

Among the patrons dining at the center July 24 were members of the Lutheran “lunch bunch.”

Friday is deadline to submit forms nominating an outstanding senior volunteer to be honored at a countywide meeting Oct. 17. Honorees must be at least 60 years old and have volunteered at least five years.
