Speeding pickup impaled in lot
A spectacular crash Thursday in north Peabody led to a 33-year-old Peabody resident being taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Teresa Turner was driving a pickup north on Elm St. at a high rate of speed when she ran through a stop sign at 9th St., Undersheriff Larry Starkey said.
The pickup vaulted over a steep ditch and landed on its side in the former Family Dollar store parking lot with a pole through the side window and windshield.
Peabody firefighters and a sheriff’s deputy evaluated Turner before Marion ambulance arrived at 1:07 p.m.
She was bleeding from her face and had leg and ankle pain.
Firefighters later came back to help a towing company remove the truck.
Starkey said the towing company would have had to lift the entire truck off the pole to remove it. Firefighters instead cut the pickup to make it easier to remove.
