Squad car lights stolen
Staff writer
It’s not unusual to see red and blue lights flashing atop a deputy’s squad car as he investigates a burglary.
It’s more unusual when what’s stolen are the lights, and the owner is the sheriff’s department.
That’s exactly what happened between midnight and 9:40 a.m. Thursday when a burglar used a bolt cutter to break a lock, enter a storage unit that the sheriff’s department had rented at 1103 Industrial St. in Marion, and steal three squad car light bars and two boxes of electronic parts.
The equipment either was outdated or in bad condition as the total value of the items stolen was put at just $101.
Marion police recently spent nearly $1,600 on light bars they purchased, presumably for a used vehicle they recently acquired.
Officer and former deputy Kaylan Miles investigated the burglary for Marion police.
According to an offense report he filed, no suspects have been identified.
