Hillsboro residents who recycle would be willing to pay more to continue recycling.
Hillsboro City Council member Ronald Wilkins told council members Tuesday that residents were concerned that recycling was being mixed with trash and taken to a landfill.
Council member Jeffrey Jorgensen, who did not attend the meeting, sent in written comments that the public was not confident where the recycled materials were going.
Mayor Lou Thurston recommended recording a video so the public could see what is happening.
“It appears the community wants to keep recycling, so in the next month or two we need to decide what to do,” Wilkins said.
Thurston said county commissioner Jonah Gehring and two other commissioners told him fees for recycling would not increase next year.
At the meeting, all council members wore black shirts provided by Thurston supporting home rule.
