Three teams head
into break
with victories

Three out of five girls’ teams logged victories heading into Christmas break.

Marion

The Warriors edged out a one-point victory Friday night at Sterling, 42-41.

Kate Wessel led her team with 16 points. Dylan Kraus scored eight, and Shaliah Ensley scored six.

“Girls battled for 32 minutes tonight,” coach Jason Hett said. “Great team win to head into break. Everyone impacted this game. Total team win.”

Marion will be back in action Jan 6 at home against Wichita Classical.

Hillsboro

Hillsboro’s Friday game was moved up to Thursday, and the Trojans beat Southeast of Saline 54-49.

“We were one short tonight without Amyah Werth,” coach Micah Ratzlaff said, “and the other girls really stepped up against a really good Southeast of Saline team.

“We made some mistakes, but we didn’t play scared, and I thought we played with some composure and confidence.”

Ella Potucek had 18 points and five steals and went a perfect 10 for 10 from the free-throw line. Daisy Klein scored 20 points.

“Addison Jost also stepped up, being more aggressive on offense and defending and rebounding and doing all the little things,” Ratzlaff said. “Again, this was a great win. and I’m so proud of the girls going into the Christmas break.”

Hillsboro’s season will start again Jan. 2 on the road against Pratt.

Goessel

The Goessel girls won at Douglass in their last game of 2025.

The Bluebirds got a lead early in the game and never relinquished it. Goessel led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter and 21-10 at half-time.

Five different Bluebirds scored in the third quarter, pushing their lead to 36-20. Rebounding helped as the Bluebirds collected 42 caroms to 27 for the Bulldogs.

Goessel led by as many as 27 points late in the game and won by a final score of 51-30.

The Bluebirds had balanced scoring with Bella O’Neill getting 10; Mackenzie Voth, 9; Isabelle Alderfer, 8; and Abbigail Johnson 8.

The Bluebirds are 3-2 for the season and will be at home Jan. 6 against Peabody-Burns.

Peabody-Burns

The Warriors lost 32-20 Friday night at home against Herington.

Their next game will be at home Jan. 2 against Central-Burden.

Centre

The Cougars lost 57-17 on the road Friday night to Canton-Galva.

Centre will be back in action at home Jan. 6 against Solomon.
