The official rain observer in Marion, Dr. P.J. Garrison, reports 10.43 inches of rainfall for the month of July and believes it to be a record for July precipitation.

Paul Herpich, well-liked and capable young Marion man, has joined the Marion County police force as undersheriff, according to word from Sheriff Jim Kline.

Marion High School’s new band instructor, Kenneth W. Swanson, arrived here this week and is in the high school band room daily, superintendent A.J. Shull announced Wednesday.

In addition to the two men originally called as Marion County’s first component to be sent for pre-induction physical, a supplementary call for 12 more has been received. Those accepted will then be subject to the first draft call.

Miss Darlene Tuell, whose marriage to Leon McCarty took place Sunday, was honored July 28 with a miscellaneous shower at the home of Mrs. Art Hett. Hostesses were Mrs. Jerry Hett, Miss Dorothy McCarty, and Miss Patsy McCarty.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Keazer are the happy parents of a baby daughter born July 31 at the Marion Hospital. They have named her Jeanne Elizabeth.

Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride will star in “Ma and Pa Kettle Go to Town” Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at The Kaw. This is the newest and most hilarious adventure of the Kettles. Admission is 45 cents for adults and 16 cents for children.
