Diners celebrate cows

Marion Senior Center correspondent

Guests at the center celebrate Cow Appreciation Day on July 14. Superstitions about milk were told followed by a melodrama about paying a mortgage on a cow. Performers were Teresa Graham as the cow, Ralph Popp as Pa, Sue Clough as Ma, Arlene Bowers as Sister Sue, Jerry Kline as Brother Claude, Clayton Hamm as the villain — complete with a cape and drawn-on moustache — and Vern Bowers as the hero.

There was a second, makeup meal July 16, which was a cookout with grilled hot dogs and hamburgers.

Judy Dannenfelser loaned the center a cardboard cutout for National Day of the Cowboy, which was Friday.

Gene Winkler presented a program July 20 about cell phones and other electronic gadgets.

The program Aug. 3 will be presented by Jeanne Byquist of the Tammy Walker Cancer Center, Salina, as part of the Avon Breast Cancer Outreach program.
